Our annual spring festival, ArtiGras (FREE), is similar to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It is comprised of food & crafts vendors, activities, art exhibitions, stage performances preceded by dance lessons, and a parade around Railroad Square. Led by a brass band, the parade includes groups and individuals who have created their own costumes or small floats, decorated their cars, or dressed up their dogs. ArtiGras makes a special effort to educate Southside students about the Creole cultures of the South that have Mardi Gras traditions (i.e., New Orleans and S.W. Louisiana, Mobile, and Apalachicola).
Bands: Bill “Sauce Boss” Wharton (5 pm); The Common ‘Taters and the Turn-Ups (6 pm); Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole, from Lafayette, Louisiana (7 pm); JB’s ZydecoZoo (8 pm); and Just Us in Counterpoint (9 pm).
