Cross Cultural Coalition at Railroad Square

The Cross-Cultural Coalition (CCC) is located within Railroad Square Art Park, in the Greater Frenchtown/Southside Community Redevelopment Area (as officially designated by the City of Tallahassee) between FSU and FAMU.

Formed in 2009 to provide an alliance of arts organizations and individuals among the Square’s tenants, CCC is registered in the State of Florida as a 501c-3 non-profit corporation. It is currently directed by Janet L. (Jan) DeCosmo, Ph.D., who has been working with the organization since 2014 as a board member and scholar/advisor.

CCC collaborates with smaller non-profit groups and individuals to offer them a space to meet and rehearse, and to help expand their visibility and vision within the Southside community.

This production will be our First Annual FREE Sankofa Concert at Cascades Park amphitheatre.

The musical is based on former FAMU and FSU student Akil Dupont's short film, “Underground,” that won 21 awards in 28 film festivals and two student Emmys. Our concert by the same name features original songs and classic Negro spirituals, a script, period costumes, and choreography.

Our own FAMU alum, Lili Forbes, is directing a cast of over 35 community volunteers.

The plot (1850): “'In a story told through song and with dreams of freedom tugging at his soul, Bali plans to escape from slavery after learning that his master, Jacob, is going to sell his daughter, Emala, to help cover the financial losses that he has suffered from a drought."
